The secular humanist form of reasoning is a most puzzling thing. The humanist, for example, believes that the best government is one that minimizes freedom, and maximizes power. The humanist believes, firstly, that there is no God. This leads him to think that, for lack of a higher authority, the government becomes supreme. To truly change and perfect society, then, a God or system of moral religious beliefs is not necessary. To perfect society, you simply need the 'perfect' government. To the humanist, the perfect government is totalitarian.
The humanist would say that the reason there is so much crime is because of society, not the individual. If an individual robs a bank then, it is not really his fault, society is at fault. The humanist believes that to fix man, you must fix society. Man is not truly at fault for anything he does. After all, man is simply a social animal destined to be molded by the society he resides in.
This line of argument brings me to my next point; Social punishments such as prisons, to the humanist, are 'harsh'. To truly fix man then, you must not lock him up, you must fix society. The humanist blames society for such things as murder, rape, and theft. Man, being the social animal that he is must be put in an easy social life. The humanist believes that equality and 'goodness' must be promoted and strived for at all costs.
To come back to the totalitarian government, the humanist believes that total control on the part of the government is the only way to 'fix' society and ultimately man.
