The truth about the Middle East. What is the truth about the Middle East? To truly understand the circumstances in Middle East today, one must delve into the history of the circumstances. One fact not to be overlooked in the turbulent history of the Middle East is that Israel did not become a nation until 1948. As long ago as 70AD the Romans had expelled the Jews from Judea. The Jews then settled throughout what is now the Middle East. At the end of World War I, the states of Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq were established by the British and the French the victors of the war. These new countries replaced the Turkish Ottoman Empire, which the British had defeated. Great Britain had originally promised the Jews a piece of this land - called the Palestinian Mandate - for their new national home. However in 1921 by order of Great Britain 80% of the land promised became an Arab country called Transjordon. Both Jews and Arabs had already inhabited the other 20%. In 1948, the Palestinian mandate Jews asked the UN to grant them just 25% of the original land promised them. The result was the partition plan that consisted of land along the Mediterranean and Sinai desert, Jerusalem and the Negav Desert. Israel then became a nation. At this time Palestinians lived in 90% of the originally promised land, including Transjordon, and 80,000 Arabs were already living in the new state of Israel itself among 1.2 million Jews. Arabs were very attracted to this land because the Jews had a high level of financial profit due to agriculture. On the very day Israel became a nation, five Arab nations attacked Israel in order to destroy it. But Israel miraculously won. Again in 1967, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan attacked Israel, and lost. In the process of defending herself, Israel gained Gaza Strip, Sinai Desert and the West Bank. The media is very biased in its position on the Middle East. We hear a lot about how deplorable conditions that Palestinian refugees are kept in are Israel's fault. However this is a because of Palestinian leadership not Israelis. To finalize, it's purely a miracle that Israel exists today at all.
