A critic or not...

This may start to sound like a critics blog, first I talk about music the other day, now movies. Whatever. Anyway, I’ve been seeing a lot of great movies lately. The other day I sat down and watched The Alamo. (Billy Bob Thornton, Denis Quaid.) That’s a good movie. I rank it with Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World.

Some new things added, you’ll notice I scratched the “links” section above the shoutbox. Now, all links appear under the title, “The Great Link List”. If you don’t see something there that I would surely want there email me here. I haven’t had time to test them all, if you catch one that doesn’t work, email me about that too. Also, here’s something you might enjoy. The browser Mozilla Firefox has this feature that lets you export everything in your bookmarks folder to an HTML file. So, this week I did just that and I thought I would upload it. See it here. If they don’t all work, that’s understandable, some are over a year old….

Always look before you buy!

Yesterday I went to QT and bought a Mountain Dew. Those of you that know me know that I like Mountain Dew, and that I drink it often. So, I bought a Mountain Dew. I came outside and was drinking it right in front of the store. So; when I took the first drink I though to myself, “this doesn’t taste right”. However, I kept drinking, thinking perhaps I had a foul taste in my mouth that was polluting the taste of the Mountain Dew. I kept drinking and it wasn’t getting any better. By this time, I’m about four inches or so into the bottle. Then, my brother whom I was waiting for comes out. I turn, and, in the process, I see that I purchased a diet Mountain Dew. Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever had a diet Mountain Dew. I would hope that you haven’t had that unfortunate experience. I ended up going back into QT and buying a regular and throwing the half drank diet in the trash. My brother got a good laugh out of it, but I’m still counting the money I spent on diet and regular Mountain Dew. So, that’s why the title for today’s post. Always look before you buy.

MP3's, Cd's, Whatever

For some reason, (I really have no idea why) I’ve been listening to a ton of music lately. Whether it be MP3’s on the computer, the radio, CD’s, or whatever. I listen to music a lot when I work. Like on my mom’s website for example. In fact, I’m listening to Johann Strauss’ The Blue Danube Waltz right now. This is an excellent piece of music. It would go on my top 10 favorite classical pieces of all time. Other titles on that list would be, Beethoven’s 5th symphony, Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata, and others. I love classical music soundtracks. I own the soundtracks from Gods and Generals and The Passion of The Christ legally. I want the soundtracks from; Gettysburg, Master and Commander, The Good the Bad and The Ugly, 2001: A Space Odyssey (I have the main title, I want the whole thing), The Incredibles, Remember the Titans, Glory, and Braveheart. I’m sure there’s more, that’s just off the top of my head. Music is a neat thing. There are so many different types of music. Music can lift you up, and it can put you down, it can inspire you, it can scare you. It’s amazing. If I had the brains and the time, music would be one thing that I think I would like to play around with for about a decade or so. Oh, five for fighting just came on. And before that I heard the main title from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. That’s what’s cool about iTunes. If you play music directly from your library, it’ll just keep going not hindered by genre, year, or title. Sweet!

Sean Hannity

Those of you that know me close, (and now everyone that reads this) know that every day at 2:00pm, (to the best of my ability) I stop what I am doing and tune the closest radio to 97.1 FM Talk, and listen to Sean Hannity. I take a lot of flak from certain unnamed members of my family when I listen to him. Comments like, “Oh, gonna listen to the pope eh?” (Sean is catholic) and “You like country music?” (Sean likes country and occasionally plays it). Nonetheless, I listen. He’s my favorite talk show host. This week, Sean had his huge freedom concert at Six Flags. Al the proceeds go toward children of deceased soldiers to pay for college education. He’s raised over 8 million dollars over the past three years. Take that! Sorry; my sarcasm got the best of me. Sean is awesome. I love his show. If they were to take it off the radio I don’t know what I might do. In the six months or so that I’ve been listening to him, I’ve never heard one single solitary swear word. Quite the contrast from Rush Limbaugh. Nothing against Rush, he’s good too. Sean is just better.

I haven’t been listening to him that long. I read a couple of his books and really enjoyed them. I figured if his books were that good, I ought to listen to his radio show. So I started, and now I can’t stop. He’s great. So, go to hannity.com and find out what station he’s on in your area and listen. Three hours a day, every day. Go Sean!!!

Terrorism

It really freaks me out when a terrorist attack happens. With the recent attacks in London; I didn’t actually watch any coverage, and I have yet to gather any more news on it than a 2-minute blurb on headline news. Still, I am affected. I think about the relatives of the people that died. How in the world does one cope with a death like that? Cancer or old age is one thing to die of, but a terrorist attack? Someone took your loved one’s life simply because of his willingness to spread his hate-filled ideology? That’s insane! That’s the kind of thoughts that have been crisscrossing my feeble brain lately. Why do people do things like that?

Also, in response to the comments posted about Nick and Jessica, I think I’d better clarify. In my comment I said something to the effect of “Both Harrison and Amanda have a point...” I posted that, and then when I read it later, I realized that it sounded like I was trying to play both sides of the fence, when only one side can truly be played. The very thought brings to mind a recent presidential candidate who couldn’t buy my vote. Give up? John Kerry. No one has picked up on it yet; I guess you’re all too slow. ;-) Anyway, let me clarify, I think Nick and Jessica did a fine job if you’re strictly talking presentation. However, they just don’t come to mind when I think of true patriotism. Maybe that’s because I’ve got them stereo-typed with their TV show. When I think of true patriotism, I think Sean Hannity, Bill O’reilly, President Bush, Ann Coulter, etc. Not Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson. I see it like I would see Michael Jackson running a daycare; sure; he may do a fine job; it’s just not what I see him as. Now; comment on that!

The fourth

Happy 4th of July! The 4th is always a special time for me. It brings to mind everything I've read about our nation's history. I always think of all the patriots that have died to literally purchase the freedom that we enjoy, and, I'm afraid to say, often take for granted. Every year I think that American citizens are becoming less and less aware of the price or freedom. However, each year on Independence day, it is apparent to me that people really do care about how much freedom costs to protect and defend it.

Let us hope and pray that our country will always remain as free as it is today.

I watched a good portion of the "Capital Fourth" concert on PBS tonight, as well as part of Nick and Jessica's Tour of Duty on ABC. Both were pretty good programming. Nick and Jessica were kinda secular, but what can one expect from two stars from an MTV reality show? You know, the more I think about it, this is starting to make me sick. Why in the world did they do that?

Here's the dish; what's

Here's the dish; what's the differance between the wireless standards of 802.11b or 802.11g? Is one faster...? More effecient...? Whatever. That's today's burning question... (!) The image posted was taken in a public park by my house. The mushroom was growing right where the tree had split during a recent storm. It makes a rather neat picture does it not? It actually makes a great wallpaper. Enjoy!
