This laptop has caused me

This laptop has caused me to post more. However, it has not helped my get online more. I still write out my posts sometimes up to a week before they go online. I really think that high-speed from Charter Digital would fix that. But, alas, we don’t have high-speed internet from Charter Digital…

Filmmaking

I'm on the set of our new movie, The Ring And The Badge. It's going quite well. We're working on what is probably the most emotional scene in the movie. I'm not going to give any details here, except that it's going to be really good. I'm loving every minute of production. Filmmaking is something I absolutely love. One of my good friends family just got a high speed connection from Charter Digital. I’ve been trying to convince my parents to get Charter for a while now.

Floodplain Seminar

Talk, talk, talk. All about floodplain management. Not that there isn’t a place for it, it’s just not my favorite topic. I enjoy these conferences for food, soda, travel, and cable TV. I’ve been to many conferences with my dad. It’s a great experience. Also, with this one, I am giving the board of directors a bid to work on the website for the organization. The organization, in case you were wondering, is Missouri Floodplain and Storm water Managers Association. A mouthful, I know. The reason that I got the chance at the job is because my dad is on the board of directors. He was able to promote my services to the board, leading to my being considered for the job. Nice.

Just now, I’m listening to a gentleman talk about map modernization. It’s ok I guess. I’m currently feeling kinda sore inside. No idea why, other than my just guzzling a 20oz of Mountain Dew. I think I drank it to fast for my insides. :-( Oh well, I’ll just over an hour to sit here and kill time on my laptop and work at staying awake. Oh! That’s right, I got a laptop. It’s not much, 400Mhz processor, 4GB hard drive, Windows 98SE, 64MB of RAM. Not to good; though it does suit my needs for word processing, web design, email, (if I get a Wi-Fi card…) etc. There are some problems though. The battery doesn’t work so I’m glued to an outlet wherever I take it. The power cord is touchy, it gave me some trouble on Sunday, but it’s been fine since then.

About my website; I’ll hopefully be getting Movable Type working in early July or so. My apologies for the grueling wait.

Some thought’s on Xanga.com; I suppose it’s nice for an individual who wants to blog, but there are several drawbacks. Notice however, that I’m not slamming those on Xanga, or even just Xanga for that matter. I’m simply stating my opinion about it. Like I said, it’s nice for the individual who wants to post their stuff online. However, it doesn’t offer advanced blogging techniques. For example, it should allow anyone to post comments on anyone’s blog, not just those registered on Xanga. I suppose that their reasoning is to try and block out comment spammers, I’ll discuss that in a moment. Their motive could also be to make money. If you’re not registered you can’t post comments, so then you’ll register, their hits will go up, advertisers will pay more, so they make money. This stinks because if someone links them, then they get hits from that link, they can’t comment or post in the guestbook, so the owner of the Xanga account doesn’t even really know. Now, about comment spammers, the Xanga only rule of interaction on it’s website doesn’t really solve comment spamming. I’m on Xanga, and I’ve gotten several spammers in my guestbook. I think some idiots on there think it’s a dating service or some kind of “hookup” site. For those of you that think it is and are reading this, here’s a clue; I would never hookup with someone that I’ve never seen. So, you are hurting yourself by getting banned from my site, so you can’t post meaningful content. (Like you had any in the first place.) Both the entries in my guestbook were of that nature. As far as blogging goes, yes, it allows you to post and such, however, you can’t really do a lot without a premium account, for which I get tons of email about. Now, don’t get me wrong, Xanga is a fine service; however, if it were to make these changes, it would appeal to me a lot more.

I get really annoyed when a site that I want to like and think is cool doesn’t let me do something, (whatever that something may be) unless I’m a member. Sure, if a site’s good enough, I’ll register. I’ve thought about doing a user system on my site, but with this rationale, I have kept it free and open. So, my message to Xanga is this, ramp up the features, kick off the idiots, and make it free. Until then, I’ll blog here, and keep a nice friendly link on my Xanga site.

As a side note, the team from my church left for Africa yesterday. It was kind of hard to think about it. I would recommend you pray for them, it’s not an easy trip. For your info, this is the trip that I was saving for earlier this year. I have mixed feelings. Yes, there is disappointment in that I didn’t get to go, but it’s also some relief as well. I’ll be praying for them and I would encourage you to do the same.

Man, this is a long post. Overdue too… Perhaps I should have split it up. No matter, it’s here now. If you’ve read this far, you’re a true fan of addisontodd.com!! By the time you read this it will be Sunday, or maybe even Monday. I expect my posting to pick up now that I’ve got a laptop. It’s much easier to set it up, plug it in and write what I’ve got on my mind. However, I’ve still got the issue of not being online when I write. That would be a smaller problem if this thing had Wi-Fi, but it doesn’t. Hopefully I’ll be getting a new one with Wi-Fi before the end of this year.

NOTE: resources for this post are based on my own experience; if I’m wrong, feel free to contact me via the contact page. Also, my Xanga user is webmaster88 in case you wanted to know.
