Abolish Copyright?

Brain Handles > Should Copyright Be Abolished?

A fascinating idea and concept here... So fascinating that I might post my own entry on the subject. Very relevant. Perhaps a reason why not to "download this song".

Abolishing copyright is a horrible idea. Revising it is not. If I happened to publish a creative work I would want it protected by copyright so I could decided what happens with it. Copyright is only being called into question now because it is becoming more and more difficult to enforce because digital formatting is so easy to duplicate. Thus we have the open-source community, the Linux people, the Creative Commons and on the opposite side we have the big companies trying to protect copyright though DRM which, of course, consumers hate because it limits their rights. If people would just respect copyright in the first place then we wouldn't have this problem.
