I Want It That Way

I hope this blog doesn't turn into a lyric blog.... But at least I have some commmentary on this one. :)

This just happened upon my mind as I listened to this song. Fair warning, this is gonna sound wierd. Really wierd.

It's sort of like the Backstreet Boys summed up the way God feels about his children. Especially the lines "...But we are two worlds apart / Can't reach to your heart..." I think that God feels that way when we deliberately ignore and supress Him. The lines "Am I your fire / Your one desire..." also have a spiritual parallel. Now, don't misunderstand me. The song is about a lover and his problems. I never said that the idea that struck my mind was the Backstreet Boys' idea. It wasn't. Just an interesting thought that entered my head that I though was worth sharing.

Song: I Want It That Way
Band/Artist: Backstreet Boys
Album: Millenium
Year: 1999

You are my fire
The one desire
Believe when I say
I want it that way

But we are two worlds apart
Can't reach to your heart
When you say
That I want it that way

Chorus:
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Am I your fire
Your one desire
Yes I know it's too late
But I want it that way

(Repeat chorus)

Now I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me

You are my fire
The one desire
You are, you are, you are, you are
Don't wanna hear you say...

Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
I wanna hear you say
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

(Repeat chorus 2x)
