During the Civil War, the North and South were the most aggressive enemies. They hated one another and what they stood for, and their fighting reflected this feeling for one another.
After the War was done, the hostilities and hard feelings toward the opponent did not cease. They continued to have bitter exchanges over the topic of slavery and state's rights. The North ravaged the South during the War cruelly burning down the home's and plantation's of civilians. After the War they did next to nothing to help replace the damage done and mend the broken homes and farms.
The Southern economy was very dependent on slavery as a labor method. The War ended slavery but it did not offer any replacement strategy for the loss of slavery.
