The Unique Forming of the Constitution

The Constitution is unique, not only in its role as the document that influenced the form of government that we cherish. The Constitution is unique, simply because it got past the Constitutional Convention. The Constitution was a radical, new, and never before heard of form of government. It vested the power in the people, while allowing the government to do the things that they needed. It provided a system of careful checks and balances to keep government from getting out of control and becoming despotic.

The Constitutional Convention had insurmountable problems facing it. After the War of Independence, many were unsure what type of government they needed. The Constitutional Convention is particularly unique in that at the Convention, you many different representatives from many different states all coming together trying to come to a common view and to take that view from an idea to a reality. That alone provides many obstacles. The Constitution however, is unique because all those different ideas and melds them into one, which, more or less, satisfies them all.

One great question that the Constitution had to answer was how was America going to maintain the sovereignty of the state, while the general government could still compel obedience. This question was answered by how the Constitution gave general powerful to the national government, and yet each state still attained the rights to make laws and legislate within the state as they saw fit. Those at the Convention also saw the need to protect the people from their rulers. This problem, the Constitution also solved.
